The World Young Scientist Summit 2024 (WYSS 2024) is set to take place in Wenzhou, China, from Nov 15 to 17. This year's event carries the theme "Youth Innovation: Fostering New Quality Productive Forces," emphasizing the role of young scientists in driving innovation and economic growth.

Organized by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) in collaboration with the People's Government of Zhejiang Province, the summit is co-hosted by the World Association of Young Scientists (WAYS), the Department of Personnel and Organization of the CAST, the Zhejiang Association for Science and Technology, and the Wenzhou Municipal Government.

The summit, now in its sixth iteration, has a history of bringing together young minds in science and technology.

Over the past five years, the summit has attracted more than 30 Nobel Prize-level scientists, including Michael Levitt, Hartmut Michel, and Konstantin Novoselov, as well as over 400 Chinese and foreign academicians, such as Zhong Nanshan, Shi Yigong, Fan Daiming, and Nieng Yan. Additionally, more than 5600 young scientists, entrepreneurs, and venture capitalists, including Hu Hailan, Chen Lingling, and Lu Chaoyang, have been to the event.

In-depth exploration of tech frontiers

The 2024 summit will focus on cutting-edge scientific and technological developments, with keynote reports on various topics such as technological innovation and youth leadership, integrating artificial intelligence with future technologies, energy revolution, sustainable development, and more. The event will feature over a dozen sub-forums to discuss quantum information technology, artificial intelligence, machine learning, brain and cognitive science, and new energy technologies.

In a notable move, the summit is set to launch a new program, welcoming submissions of papers and abstracts across a range of cutting-edge innovation areas and compiling them into a special issue for the summit. Authors submitting to this issue will enjoy a streamlined review process and complimentary summit attendance and may be chosen for an oral presentation of their scholarly work.

Global reach for sci-tech dignitaries

The 2024 summit is set to be more international than ever, with participants from across the globe, particularly from technologically developed countries.

Representatives from the International Science Council, the China-Pan-Balkan Alliance of Natural Products and Drug Discovery Associations, the WAYS, European universities, research institutes, and the Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions are expected to attend.

International participation is projected to exceed 30% of the total attendees. This year's summit will also continue to strengthen its international partnerships, building on existing collaborations with organizations such as the International Science Council and expanding interactions with the WAYS' member units.

For the third consecutive year, the summit will host a European special session in Brussels, Belgium, featuring a range of forums and activities to attract participation from European and Chinese scientists, entrepreneurs, and investors.

Gathering of energetic young experts

A major highlight of the 2024 summit is its focus on young innovators. The summit will broaden its scope to include early-career researchers such as master's and doctoral students and postdoctoral fellows, aiming for a youth participation rate of over 70%. Representatives from various youth science and technology organizations will be in attendance.

The summit will feature the inaugural WYSS Carnival, designed to offer young scientists a more interactive and immersive experience. The activity will feature a mix of scientists, artists, developers, and entrepreneurs, with areas dedicated to displays, discussions, socializing, and public engagement. Various forums and cultural activities, including science cafes, book sharing, music appreciation, and dragon boat races, will be held to showcase the creativity of young scientists and entrepreneurs.

The World Young Scientist Summit 2024 will contribute to scientific exchange and the development of the next generation of scientific leaders and innovators.
